World Series Final Game Draws 51 Million Viewers In the United States, Canada and Japanese Markets.

The nail-biting extended matchup that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 drew a total 51 million watchers in the US, Canadian, and Japan territories. Major League Baseball announced this marks the most-watched Fall Classic finale since the 1991 edition showdown between the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Details

Last Saturday’s epic contest drew 27.33M viewers on Fox networks, Fox Deportes and Fox’s streaming platforms. Per ratings data, it was the second highest-rated broadcast of the previous week.

It also stands as the top-rated World Series game since the 2017 edition final game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Astros, which drew over 29 million. This represents a sixteen percent increase over the previous finale featuring the Washington Nationals and Astros, which attracted 23.19 million viewers.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 ranked 4th, Game 4 was seventh, Game 5 was 8th, and the third game finished in 13th position.

Global Audience Figures

In the Canadian market, the climactic game averaged over 11 million viewers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports channel. This made it the most-watched English-language broadcast in the country since the 2010 edition Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the final game began at 9 PM in the local time zone, it attracted 12 million. This followed the previous Friday’s Game 6 – in which World Series MVP Yamamoto allowed a single run in six innings – averaged over 13 million viewers, making it the highest-rated World Series game on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Overall Averages and Trends

The entire seven-match World Series drew over 15.7 million viewers on the Fox network, a two percent rise from the previous year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This represents the initial instance after 2015 and ‘16 that the World Series has recorded viewership increases for two consecutive years.

Counting the Game 1 broadcast on the Univision network, the total American average was 16.1 million. The overall World Series viewership in Japan was 9.7M and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The complete playoffs on Fox, FS1 and FS2 recorded 8.09M viewers, an eight percent rise compared to last year and Fox’s strongest playoff performance after 2017.

MLB reported that the Fall Classic was broadcast in over 200 countries and territories by forty-four broadcasting partners in 16 various languages.
